Affirmation 101
Share
If you have been around our shop for a while you have probably heard me talk about daily affirmations. Let’s dive into what they really are!
What are affirmations?
Affirmations are positive statements that we say to ourselves, usually throughout the day. They are always positive and always in the present tense. Say them as if they are already true.
I like to write them down because it helps me to remember them throughout the day. They can be as simple as, “I am focused”. Or they can be detailed to help us recall exactly what we need to remember, such as “I am present when I am with my children”.
Why do I use affirmations?
Affirmations help me see the world in a more positive light! I am an optimistic person and always have been. I truly believe that channeling those positive thoughts brings EVEN MORE positivity to my life.
Even eternal optimists have hard days though and affirmations ground me when life gets crazy. I’m a mom of two running a business from home- I need all the help I can get.
I tend to pick affirmations around things that I may want to improve (think “I am fit, healthy and strong”) or things that I already do well but need my inner voice to hear when I am struggling (like “I am organized and have a clear plan”).
Either way, I set my intention for the day and confirm it with an affirmation. This way I set my course and am grounded by my affirmation instead of being tossed by every idea, email, and text that comes at me.
How do I get started?
Notice how all affirmations begin with “I am..” and then are followed by a positive thought. Start with that.
Next, think of your New Year's Resolution or word of the year. Think of a couple of affirmations surrounding that resolution or goal. Then write them down on a sticky note and put them on your calendar or bathroom mirror- put it somewhere you will see it daily.
Last year my word of the year was “less”. So my affirmations surrounding that goal were:
- I am free to do less.
- I am uncluttered.
- I am content with what I have.
- I am satisfied with my work.
In the next blog post I’ll share how I pair affirmations with oils and gemstones (like our affirmation bracelets) to really make those affirmations stick! If you’d like to receive a weekly affirmation from me, just sign up for our email newsletter, here.
So what are you affirming today? Share your affirmation in the comments below!
